Neillsville Girls Basketball.. WE ROCK.

Neillsville basketball is a huge part of the community. This year we won the Cloverbelt Conference title for the sixth year in a row, and we wonthe crossover game against number one team in the state, Regis. Last weekend we won the Regional Final game against another very good team, West Salem. We have two more games on the road to state. We have excellent fans from the Neillsville community who always come to EVERY game and cheer their hearts out for us. I thought that my jersey would be an interesting first post for this blog. I really like the angle.. makes it unique!

Old Stuff!

I went driving around last night and these are the pictures I came up with. The basketball hoop picture was taken at the old Sun Burst, the old gas pump picture was taken by the dump and the frolf basket was taken in the park. Once I took pictures of these three items it started to rain so I decided to go home instead of standing outside in the rain taking pictures.    - Mary

Sunset! by Brooke

I took this picture again by my aunts house. We went for a drive down to the boat landing and stopped a few times on the way back to get some pictures for photography class. I was using my 70-300mm lens without any filters. The sun was setting and I wanted to get a picture of the silhouette of the plants. I like how the sky turns from orange to blue. Although it is almost centered I still like how it turned out.

Ski the Pond

The last day of the season at my favorite ski hill, Bruce Mound, they do an event called Ski the Pond. They dig a hole in the snow and put a tarp in it, then they fill the pond with water and have some crazy people see if they can ski (or snowboard) all the way across it. A lucky few make it all day without getting wet...but that's no fun at all. The fun ones did tricks, and the brave ones tried to spray the crowd with the freezing water. Everyone had a great time, and there were no major injuries :) I look forward to doing the same thing next winter at my favorite winter place, but as you can see, everyone here seems to be looking forward to summer too.

Neillsville Roads

While taking pictures for our recent "Seeing Different" I took a few extra pictures of the land. This is out at my aunts house right near the boat landing. I was using an ND (neutral density) filter which helps to balance out the exposure of everything in the picture. My favorite part of this picture is the vignetting around the middle of the picture. I can put that effect on it when I edit it on the computer but it doesn't look as good as when it is naturally in a picture.

The First Neillsville Project post

We're trying an experiment in the NHS Digital Photography Class-an open blog for students to publish any photos of the Neillsville area-city, rural areas, life, recreation...anything that a photograph can communicate.  Students are asked to post images, write a description of them and take credit for their part in this project.  Hopefully this will be a visual record of the place where we live.  Good Luck!
